Harrison School PTA Committee Descriptions
ART APPRECIATION:
Coordinate volunteers who will bring art lessons into each classroom. Lessons will focus on a famous artist and make a related art project with the class.
BASKETBALL GAME:
Help to organize a basketball game with another Livingston elementary school to benefit the Livingston First Aid Squad.
BASKET BONANZA:
The most exciting event at Harrison! There are so many ways to help, big or small. From securing donations to running the raffling of baskets the night of. We cannot bring this tradition back without enough help!
CULTURAL CELEBRATIONS:
Let’s celebrate the diversity of the Harrison community! Help to organize decorations and in school activities alongside other parents and teachers.
EARTH DAY:
Help to organize an environmentally friendly activity to celebrate Earth Day.
FAMILY GAME NIGHT:
An evening of fun for the students and their families. Assist in arranging various games and crafts to be played.
FIELD DAY:
This is a day-time event held during school hours. Work with the Physical Education teachers to schedule class parent volunteers, assign them to various game stations, and give out ice-pops for every child in the school.
FOOD TRUCK FESTIVAL:
Secure food trucks for a yummy night spent with Harrison with your family and friends.
HOLIDAY BOUTIQUE:
Organize a holiday shopping experience for the children. Work with the vendor to secure gifts. Assist with set-up and take down and help children with their purchases.
KIDS KLUB:
This is an after-school enrichment program run entirely by the PTA. Committee members will help to help secure vendors to provide fun classes. Work with other parent volunteers to help direct kids to their classes and dismiss them.
KRISPIE KREME SALE:
Promote and help distribute pick up of Krispie Kreme doughnuts in the Spring.
MEMORIAL DAY PARADE:
Coordinate Harrison participation with the town to march in the town parade ending with popsicles at Harrison.
MIX IT UP DAY:
Coordinate with the school’s guidance counselor to help encourage students to socialize with someone new.
MULTICULTURAL NIGHT:
An annual event celebrating the diversity of the Harrison community. Help to coordinate table displays and food celebrating different countries from around the world.
PARENTS NIGHT OUT:
Organize social opportunities for parents to get to know each other outside of school hours.
PLANT SALE:
Work with a local nursery to help students purchase flowers in May during school hours.
READ-A-THON:
A schoolwide fundraiser based on students gathering pledges for reading. Work with the host site and the school to promote information and organize prizes.
RESTAURANT "GIVE BACK" FUNDRAISERS:
Contact local restaurants and promote shared fundraising opportunities.
ROLLER RINK NIGHT:
Be in contact with Florham Park Roller Rink to plan a fun night out!
SEPAC REPRESENTATIVE:
A 2-year commitment to work alongside other parent committee members and staff within the district. This committee helps to “provide input to the district on issues concerning students with disabilities.” More information can be found here.
SILVERGRAPHICS:
An art fundraiser that requires working with the school’s art teacher. Help to sort and label artwork as well as distribute products to classrooms.
SPIRITWEAR:
Work with a local vendor to choose swag to provide the community for purchase. Promote, pick up, and distribute clothing.
TEACHER/STAFF APPRECIATION:
Work with the hospitality VPs to help plan various events to shower for Teacher Appreciation Week in May and additional staff throughout the year.
TREP$:
Work alongside teachers to help coordinate an entrepreneur focused program which culminates in a student marketplace.
TRUNK OR TREAT:
Celebrate Halloween with a spooktacular night at the Harrison teacher’s parking lot. Recruit trunks to give out candy, collect donations, and provide baskets to trick-or-treaters.
WELCOMING COMMITTEE:
Welcome new students and their families that enter during the school year to help them acclimate into the Harrison community.
YEARBOOK:
Organize the yearbook, take various pictures during school hours, collect pictures from staff and families. Design the layout and submit them to the printer by the deadline.
